OVERVIEW

In any business or project, some things are critical. They simply have to happen in order to be successful. In most industries today, innovation is one of those things. It has become critical to long term survival and success, and so have the behaviours and attitudes that are critical to successful innovation.

For businesses today, the pressures to achieve breakthrough results are greater than ever. As innovators and as leaders, we need to look beyond process and focus on our behaviours — including the barriers that we sometimes impose on ourselves. A 2007 survey of senior business executives involved in innovation ranked “Ability to create a climate that continuously fosters innovation” as the number one attribute of an innovative company. Another recent survey found that the number one source that CEOs look to for new ideas is “Existing employees”.

This interactive workshop is about identifying, developing and promoting the critical behaviours and mindset that enable us to innovate and adapt to change. It’s about discovering some powerful patterns that define the difference between successful innovation and getting trapped in the status quo. These patterns have the power to make each of us more effective team members and project leaders or undermine even the most thoughtfully designed projects or innovation processes.

Participants will:

1) Explore innovation as a personal discipline, one that isn’t just about new products and services but about being more effective and creative in all aspects of our work.
2) Gain leadership insights into how to make teams more adaptable and resourceful.
3) Distinguish patterns of thought and behaviour that lead to innovation from those that are counterproductive.
4) Learn to recognize patterns of organizational behaviour, and anticipate how those patterns may promote or undermine innovation and project success.
5) Gain techniques and insights that drive breakthrough outcomes.
