Creative Problem Solving
|
|
IntroductionDo you ever find yourself wishing that your people would be able to come up with new and different solutions that get people excited rather than simply more of the same? We are beset with problems every day, many are simple yet time consuming, others require a root cause analysis approach – whilst still other cry out for a totally new approach. If you want your people to come up with new and innovative solutions to a range of problems and issues, then you will need to train them to think differently – to think creatively and laterally, and to be able to harness this creativity in a results focused approach. At the Centre for Competitiveness (CforC) we have designed an approach creative problem solving using a range of lateral thinking tools and techniques that are used by thinkers and problem solvers the world over. These are all brought together and focused through a set of templates that will enable a small group of people to solve any problem creatively, generating a range of solutions. What is Creative Problem Solving?Alex Osborn and Sidney Parnes are credited as the original creative problem solving methodology designers, but it has developed on by many people and organisations since then. CforC has designed this approach by searching for the most simple to use yet effective thinking techniques and integrating them into a powerful set of templates. This approach focuses on the phrase “In what ways might we….” and then uses a range of creative and lateral thinking tools to generate a range of new ideas and solutions, and drive them through to an action plan to make things happen. What happens on the day? This 1-day training course introduces a 7-step template approach to Creative Problem Solving. It introduces a range of lateral thinking techniques that are all proven successful and are joined together through the use of a set of templates. Each tool or technique is introduced, explained and demonstrated. Delegates are then asked to solve problems using the tools, learning by doing, so that a good understanding of how it actually works is gained. Throughout the day the templates set is used so that delegates can become familiar with how to use it, thus adding even more power to the techniques. This means that, on the day, every delegate will have used the Creative Problem Solving approach and templates to solve a series of problems, thus building knowledge and confidence to lead and participate in Creative Problem Solving teams back at your organisation. |
