Investor in Innovation

Delivering Ongoing Value Creation and Business Impact

What is Investor in Innovation?

The Investor in Innovation Programme aims to improve innovative performance within organisations, regardless of size, sector or maturity. Innovation is still regarded by many as leading edge technology, R&D or product development. Increasingly though organisations are recognising that innovation is more than the development of new products or services, however revolutionary. It is about creating a constant flow of new ideas, responding to new trends or changing market conditions, as well as improving existing products and services. Innovation is about engaging the whole organisation in the creative process.

Investor in Innovation challenges organisations to identify the actions they need to take to create an environment in which innovation can thrive and deliver tangible benefits. Through accreditation, the programme also recognise those organisations that have made significant progress in the area of innovation.

The Investor in Innovation has many benefits:

  • Create competitive advantage.
  • Improve business performance.
  • Improve productivity and efficiency.
  • Increase staff morale and engagement.
  • Build brand and reputation with external accreditation.
  • Join an innovation community with collaboration opportunities.

Innovation Mix

The innovation Mix Illustrates the activities, processes and culture that combine to stimulate innovation and encourage it to flourish. It represents a broad view of innovation and aims to measure tangible business impacts along three key strands namely Direction, Climate and Delivery.

What are the key elements of the programme?

Innovation means different things to different organisations and will be measured in different ways. Thus, the approach is flexible enough to be tailored to suit individual organisational needs and circumstances.

Summarised below are the typical steps involved in running the Programme, with each step facilitated by an Innovation Advisor. The ordering of these steps, and the duration of each, can be flexed to suit the needs of the organisation.
