Invest NI Competitiveness Assessment

Assess your company's competitiveness for FREE!

The Competitiveness Assessment process has been developed by the Centre for Competitiveness in partnership with the Business Improvement Service of Invest Northern Ireland.

Its aim is to provide a clear overview of a company's strengths and areas for improvement and to highlight the business improvement priorities to enhance its competitiveness.

This assessment service is provided free of charge to INI companies and enables participating companies to subsequently access CforC and INI supported improvement programmes.

The Competitiveness Assessment is achieved by conducting a quantitative assessment, using the European wide Benchmark Index database, and a qualitative assessment, by conducting interviews with company employees against the EFQM Excellence Model. Analysis of the mix of quantitative and qualitative assessment findings has been found to be a highly effective mechanism to accurately identify the key areas for improvement. The assessment output, in report form, is summarised by:

  • Company strengths and areas for improvement
  • Performance against key business performance metrics
  • Prioritisation of areas for improvement
  • Recommendation on appropriate improvement support

The report also provides all supporting data, including all comparative data, including EFQM Excellence Model score and benchmark ratings.

To date over 70 organisations have undertaken assessments with the Centre for Competitiveness. For one food related company the Competitiveness Assessment was used to identify the steps needed to achieve best practice. Further knowledge about performance and practices in the industry was obtained by sectoral benchmarking within the food industry using the Benchmark Index Database.

For another manufacturing company, the improvements implemented as a result of a competitiveness assessment have resulted in a 20% increase in stock turns and an 85% improvement in due date performance.
